BIS Scheme X Certification

Scheme X is one of the schemes under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for issuing the ISI Mark to domestically manufactured products. This scheme operates under the Product Certification Scheme governed by the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

What is Scheme X?

Scheme X is the Standard Certification Process under which BIS grants an ISI Mark license after inspecting the factory and testing samples of the product in BIS-recognized laboratories. It is meant for first-time applicants and those who are not eligible for the simplified or eco mark schemes. This is the default certification route for most mandatory and voluntary ISI-marked products.

Key Requirements

To obtain BIS certification under the FMCS scheme, manufacturers must:

  • Only Indian manufacturers can apply
  • Sample testing requires (third-party labs)
  • Initially 1–2 years of License validity
  • Post-certification audits are conducted regularly

  • Factory layout and production process
  • GST, PAN, incorporation documents
  • In-house or third-party test reports (optional but helpful)
